The Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) was established under the Queensland Reconstruction Authority Act 2011 following unprecedented natural disasters that struck Queensland over the summer months of 2010-11.

A legislative amendment that came into effect on 11 June 2015 made QRA a permanent part of the Queensland Government.

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority Act 2011 was then amended in 2019 to reflect QRA's roles and responsibilities for all hazards and to lead resilience and recovery policy.

QRA reports to the Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning, Cameron Dick MP, and also to the Queensland Reconstruction Board.
