Helping councils get REDI for the next disaster

QRA has developed a new mapping application that will help Queensland councils better understand their risk to natural disaster and the costs that come with such events.

The Repeat Events and Dollars Index (REDI) application is a user-friendly, web-based interactive mapping tool that uses data to provide a calculation that considers repeat damage from natural disasters.

The data is represented in a ‘heat map’ that identifies and highlights the most frequent and most costly damage sites
The application incorporates a huge amount of geo-coded data across about 600,000 damage locations on more than 20,000 assets in the 77 local government authorities in Queensland.

The data covers a 10-year time period and includes $5.5 billion in reconstruction costs.

The easy-to-use REDI application will help councils identify priority works and make informed decisions for each and every community when it comes to investing in stronger and more resilient infrastructure.

The final product is a great example of what can be achieved when local governments and the Queensland Government work collaboratively.

The QRA has made REDI available free of charge to all Queensland councils.
