More time for Jasper hit FNQ producers to apply for grants

Far North Queensland primary producers affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper have been given an extension to apply for Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants.

Eligible primary producers in the Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Cook, Douglas, Hinchinbrook, Mareeba and Tablelands local government areas now have until 30 June 2025 to apply for the assistance.

Grants up to $75,000 are available through the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA).

The deadline extension recognises the difficulties primary producers continue to face in recovering from the devastating impacts of Jasper.

Eligible primary producers who suffered direct damage from ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the associated rainfall and flooding can apply for grants to assist with recovery needs including pasture rehabilitation, fodder, replacing livestock, and repairs to infrastructure and equipment.

The Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants are funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Assistance was originally announced in December 2023 and made available in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.

Other financial support available to primary producers affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper includes the Rural Landholder Recovery Grant Scheme, Disaster Assistance Loans, and freight subsidies.
