New Noosa Local Disaster Coordination Centre opens in time for summer
Noosa Council's disaster response and recovery capabilities have been bolstered with the opening of its state-of-the-art Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC) for the community.
The LDCC is a new permanent and centralised hub for Noosa’s enhanced disaster response, with the ability to be stood up at short notice in a disaster situation, and utilised for different purposes at other times.
Noosa's LDCC is situated at the council depot in Noosaville and was constructed from relocated and repurposed modular buildings.
Council developed the facility using $380,000 of a $1 million Local Recovery and Resilience Grant, assistance extended following destructive flooding during the 2021-22 disaster season and funded through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), and also contributed more than $88,000 towards the project.
After the extraordinary weather events Queensland experienced last summer, the opening of the LDCC comes at a crucial time for the Noosa community as another disaster season approaches.
It offers council staff the latest technology and resources to efficiently and effectively coordinate response efforts in times of crisis, and has been designed to support resilience against both natural and man-made disasters.
Combined this will result in streamlined and coordinated response and recovery efforts that will reduce the impacts of severe weather on local residents, businesses, and the environment.
Additionally, the LDCC will also prove a valuable training resource for council, allowing them to conduct focused sessions and disaster scenario preparations.
Noosa's Local Recovery and Resilience Grant has been well used by council, helping deliver 10 separate projects, including the LDCC.
And whether it’s floods, cyclones, bushfires or storms, Noosa Council now stands ready to act.
This greater resilience will ensure Noosa can recovery faster from disasters, directly highlighting the value of this investment from council, and the positive community outcomes that can be achieved when all three levels of government work together.
It’s a facility built on confidence that will serve the region well for many years to come.
