Queenslanders awarded for building resilience

QRA hosted the 2018 Get Ready Queensland Resilient Australia Awards, which recognise projects, programs and initiatives that help build resilience and protect Queenslanders from disaster as part of the state’s Get Ready Week activities.

And the winners are…

Wide Bay Regional Organisation of Councils was a joint winner in the Government Award category for the Burnett River Catchment Flood Resilience Strategy. 

Moreton Bay Regional Council, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Police Service were also joint award winners for the ‘My Resilient Community’ project.

Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation was recognised in the Community Award category for developing the Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) Bushfire Management Plans, in partnership with QRA.

Whitsunday Regional Council won the photography award for ‘Cyclone Resilience – Whitsunday Water’ which captured the Whitsunday Water team after Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie working to restore services to the region.

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners striving to develop resilience to natural disasters in their communities.

In recognition of its outstanding success, the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience has selected the ‘My Resilient Community’ project as a finalist to represent Queensland at the national Resilient Australia Awards, on Thursday 8 November 2018.
