State Recovery Coordinator visits bushfire-impacted regions

The recently appointed State Recovery Coordinator Major General Stuart Smith (Retd) spent the first three days of his new role in the most heavily impacted areas following the recent Central Queensland bushfires.

Following his appointment on 9 December 2018, Major General Smith spent time in Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay to identify where support is needed most.

While in Central Queensland, Major General Smith expressed his sympathies for those impacted by the event and thanked all emergency service personnel and volunteers for their tireless efforts responding to the bushfires.

The QRA Queensland Reconstruction Authority is working closely with Major General Smith, to help communities get the support they need to get back on their feet.

As State Recovery Coordinator, Major General Smith said the primary recovery priorities in the impacted regions are were to support the health and emotional wellbeing of those affected, restore private property and businesses and repairing public facilities.
