More disaster assistance for flood-affected Northern and Central Queensland communities

Disaster assistance is available to seven additional local councils following extreme monsoonal rainfall and flooding across Northern and Central Queensland.

Local government areas of Aurukun, Blackall-Tambo, Cassowary Coast, Cloncurry, Douglas, Flinders, and Tablelands can now access support through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

The Northern and Central Queensland Monsoon and Flooding event caused disruption across the regions, with many local and state roads currently damaged and closed until waters recede.

Initial reports show 400mm of rain in the Aurukun region, up to 300mm in Blackall-Tambo, and around 600mm in Flinders Shire.

This DRFA assistance will help councils with their counter disaster operations and go towards restoring vital public infrastructure like roads and bridges.

All impacted local government areas are also being supported with their clean-up and recovery.

In response to the Northern and Central Queensland Monsoon and Flooding event, DRFA assistance is now available to 33 Queensland local government areas: Aurukun, Barcaldine, Barcoo, Blackall-Tambo, Boulia, Burdekin, Burke, Carpentaria, Cassowary Coast, Cloncurry, Cook, Croydon, Diamantina, Doomadgee, Douglas, Etheridge, Flinders, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Longreach, Mackay, Mapoon, Mareeba, Mornington, Mount Isa, Napranum, Northern Peninsula Area, Palm Island, Pormpuraaw, Tablelands, Townsville, Whitsunday, and Winton.
