Reconstruction Monitoring undertaken across Queensland

Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) will be carrying out its latest Reconstruction Monitoring operation across the state over a three-week period in June.

QRA officers will doorknock properties still damaged following the major disaster events that have hit Queensland over the past two years.

In 2024-25, 73 of Queensland’s 77 local government areas have been activated for support under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

And in 2023-24, communities across 66 of our 77 LGAs were left with clean-up and recovery tasks from 13 separate disaster events.

Over the next three weeks QRA officers will revisit properties still impacted, from Far North and north Queensland down to the Gold Coast and west to Darling Downs.

This includes the first follow-up damage assessments for the north and Far North Queensland floods of February, and ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, and final assessments for ex-Tropical Cyclones Jasper and Kirrily, and the 2023 SEQ Christmas storms.

When visiting properties, QRA officers check whether previously identified damage has been repaired or is under repair:

  • Has structural damage been fixed?
  • Are internal areas liveable and services reconnected?
  • Has roofing been restored?

When talking with residents, QRA officers ask questions about:

  • Personal welfare – health and wellbeing
  • Financial stress due to disaster impacts
  • Challenges with insurers or trades

Information gathered is shared with relevant councils, state and federal agencies, and other stakeholders to improve overall understanding of the needs and priorities of impacted communities.

Additional help on the ground will come from Queensland Government Community Recovery officers who will be available in high priority areas to provide psychosocial support and advice on applying for DRFA Personal Hardship Assistance.
