Local Recovery and Resilience Grant

About 

This $1 million package is for Western Downs Regional Council to address emerging recovery needs within their respective communities following the 2023 Southern Queensland Fires

In addition, the funding can assist council with preventative activities that will embed greater disaster resilience locally to help mitigate the impact of future events.

Initiatives that may be delivered under this grant program include:

  • activities and events that boost economic, social and community recovery and resilience, including community wellbeing and business development
  • the employment of local service navigator or specialist recovery or planning roles to help coordinate, plan and deliver rebuilding and resilience efforts
  • reconstruction or enhancement of evacuation and relief centres directly impacted by the disaster event
  • council projects that support disaster resilience in the community.

Funding acknowledgement

The package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to support Queensland communities in their recovery from the Southern Queensland Bushfires 8 September – 7 November 2023.
