Community Information and Education Program

Program purpose

The purpose of the jointly funded Australian and Queensland Government (50:50) Community Education and Information Program is to enhance the disaster preparedness and resilience of communities impacted by the Central Queensland Bushfires, 22 November to 6 December 2018, and ensure communities are aware of individual risks and the importance of preparing for disasters.

The Community Education and Information Program is a component of the jointly funded, exceptional circumstances Category C package approved under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) 2018, following the bushfires.

The community information and education program:

  • delivered targeted awareness campaigns and activities that focus on broader home-preparedness and disaster preparedness across the regions impacted by the Bushfires
  • delivered locally-led engagement activities to enhance bushfire preparedness
  • increased awareness of insurance needs, ensuring communities understand the importance of appropriate insurance.
