Disaster assistance activated for flood-hit Quilpie Shire

Quilpie Shire Council has been activated for vital disaster recovery funding assistance after heavy rainfall throughout June and July.

June’s unseasonal rainfall reached its highest monthly total on record, accounting for almost half of Quilpie's entire year-to-date rainfall in just four weeks.

Flooding from the extraordinary event placed significant strain on the region's roads, bridges and community infrastructure.

This activation means Council can access financial assistance from the Australian and Queensland governments to support a range of urgent recovery activities.

These activities range from clean-up operations and public safety measures to the repair of essential public assets damaged by the recent flooding.

Support is being delivered through the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). 

DRFA assistance allows councils across Queensland to restore critical infrastructure and keep communities connected when disaster strikes.

Through the DRFA, regional communities can have confidence that the funding they need to rebuild is available, and they won’t have to face the cost of recovery on their own.

For Quilpie, it’s the second flood emergency in as many years and comes as Council is still working to repair damage from the major floods of 2025.
