Expanded grants program helps more Queenslanders

More flood-affected Queensland homeowners can now access resilience funding to better protect their homes against future flooding.

An expansion of the Stronger Homes Grant program means grants of up to $10,000 are now available in another seven disaster-hit communities.

Eligible homeowners in Barcoo, Bulloo, Bundaberg, Isaac, Rockhampton, Quilpie and Western Downs can now apply for the grants to fund resilience improvement measures.

Disasters covered under the expanded program are the 2025 Western Queensland Surface Trough and severe weather events from 24 December 2025 to 24 April 2026.

Upgrades funded through the program include raising electrical switchboards, data and electrical points, hot water systems and air conditioner units above the flood level, and installing flood-resistant wall linings and flooring.

These measures can help people get back into their homes sooner following a flood and reduce the time and costs associated with recovery.

Delivered through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, the Stronger Homes Grant program also provides a welcome boost for local economies with 82 per cent of resilience work undertaken by regional contractors.

Initially introduced following the north and Far North Queensland floods of early 2025, the Stronger Homes Grant program helps flood-affected Queenslanders build back stronger for future weather events.

Addressing the long-term resilience of flood-impacted homes gives families and communities additional protection from the devastating impacts of repeated flooding.

Applications for the grants close on 30 November 2026, and all works must be completed by 30 June 2027.
