More cyclone recovery funding for SEQ small businesses, primary producers and not-for-profits
Disaster Recovery Grants totalling more than $80 million are the latest assistance measure to support south-east communities following Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the grants package is the next step in helping the region recover from Alfred’s effects.
Eligible small businesses, primary producers, not-for-profits, and rural landholders in 16 local government areas can access the grants.
Activated LGAs include Brisbane, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Gold Coast, Gympie, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Redland, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Southern Downs, Sunshine Coast, and Toowoomba.
Grants up to $25,000 are available to impacted businesses, farmers and not-for-profits for clean-up and debris removal, and other crucial recovery activities like equipment replacement, building repairs, safety inspections, restocking, and replanting.
Rural landholders or lessees of at least 10 hectares can also apply for grants up to $10,000 if they sustained direct damage from the cyclone and associated flooding but can’t access other primary producer assistance.
With recovery work already underway, the grants will further support businesses, protect jobs and help families, boosting confidence in affected communities.
This boost to local economies will see the region rebound sooner from the impacts of the first cyclone to make landfall in south-east Queensland in 50 years.
Previously announced DRFA support in response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred includes low interest loans for farmers and small businesses, freight subsidies for primary producers, emergency payments for residents, and response and recovery funding for councils.
