Queensland disaster recovery gets $48 million boost

Disaster impacted Queenslanders are set to benefit from a $48 million recovery funding injection following prolonged devastating flood and cyclone events.

Primary producers, vulnerable Queenslanders, the environment, sport and community recreational infrastructure, and recovery in the Cook Shire are the focus of this latest suite of assistance measures to support long-term recovery efforts.

Funding delivered under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) will drive important initiatives including:

  • $30 million Environmental Recovery Program for the medium to long-term restoration of natural and cultural areas, including catchments, coastlines, and national parks.
  • $10 million Sport and Community Recreational Assets Program offering grants to clean and repair impacted sports and recreational facilities in 22 local government areas (LGAs).
  • $4 million Community Development Program targeting wellbeing services, rebuilding advice, financial guidance, and preparedness initiatives for vulnerable Queenslanders in 13 LGAs.
  • $3 million Primary Producer Industry Support Package providing assistance for pest and weed management, as well as financial, business, and personal support.
  • $1 million Community Relief Fund expansion supporting the immediate recovery, clean-up, and emergency works in Cook Shire.

More than $222 million in extraordinary assistance has now been announced to fund resilient reconstruction, mental health services, community clean-up, environmental recovery, and targeted support for primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profits in response to the severe weather that commenced on Christmas Eve 2025.

This investment recognises both the terrible impacts of the floods and cyclones, and the immense value regional Queensland brings to communities, the economy, and our state.

DRFA assistance provides much needed momentum for disaster impacted communities in Queensland as they recover, grow, and once again thrive.
