Queensland disaster recovery gets $48 million boost

Queensland communities affected by this year's prolonged disaster event will benefit from a new round of assistance packages and program uplifts to help guide long-term recovery.

A further $48 million is being invested by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) in response to the Queensland Monsoon Trough, Cyclone Koji, Cyclone Narelle and Severe Weather event that started over Christmas.

Focus areas for this latest funding include the environment, sports and rec clubs, the ag sector, and at-risk households.

New programs and uplifts include:

  • $30 million Environmental Recovery Program uplift for the medium to long-term restoration of natural and cultural areas, including catchments, coastlines, and national parks.
  • $10 million Sport and Community Recreational Assets Program offering grants to clean and repair impacted sports and recreational facilities in 22 local government areas.
  • $4 million Community Development Program targeting wellbeing services, rebuilding advice, financial guidance, and preparedness initiatives for vulnerable Queenslanders in 13 LGAs.
  • $3 million Primary Producer Industry Support Package uplift providing assistance for pest and weed management, as well as financial, business, and personal support.
  • $1 million Community Relief Fund expansion supporting clean-up, emergency works, and immediate recovery activities in Cook Shire.

This brings total DRFA extraordinary assistance provided in response to this year's major flooding and cyclones to more than $222 million.

The significant investment recognises both the terrible impacts from the disaster, and the immense value of regional Queensland to the state.

Other extraordinary packages target resilient infrastructure upgrades, mental health support, business and primary producer recovery, and emergency fodder support for livestock farmers.

A full breakdown of assistance can be found at www.qra.qld.gov.au.

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) will continue to work with councils, state agencies and the Commonwealth to ensure the efficient and effective roll-out of DRFA support.

QRA is proud to lead disaster recovery in Queensland and to help grow community resilience.
