Vulnerable Brisbane residents supported with income-tested hailstorm assistance
Income-tested hardship payments are now available for uninsured residents in 15 Brisbane suburbs recovering from last month’s hailstorms.
The targeted Personal Hardship Assistance, provided under the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), supports vulnerable households with recovery expenses.
This includes the repair or replacement of damaged essential household items, reconnecting critical services like power and water, and in some cases, structural assistance to rebuild damaged homes.
Support is available to eligible uninsured residents who suffered property damage from the storms and subsequent power outages in the following suburbs: Ashgrove, Bardon, Boondall, Ferny Grove, Gumdale, Keperra, Lota, Manly, Manly West, Mount Crosby, Ransome, The Gap, Wakerley, Wynnum, and Wynnum West.
Available assistance includes:
- Structural Assistance Grants: Up to $80,000 for uninsured, income-tested homeowners to restore disaster-damaged properties to a safe and liveable condition.
- Essential Household Contents Grants: Up to $1,765 for individuals or $5,300 for families to replace essential household items.
- Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme: Grants of up to $5,000 per household for uninsured homeowners to reconnect essential services like electricity and water.
The assistance measures are the latest to be announced in response to the severe storms which struck south-east Queensland on 24 and 25 November 2025.
In total, Personal Hardship Assistance is available in eight local government areas, with 10 councils activated for DRFA support.
