Get Ready Queensland Week 2020 launch

The Get Ready Queensland Team made a special visit to Rocklea State School this morning with GRQ ambassador Johnathan Thurston to officially launch Get Ready Queensland Week (12 – 18 October).

The Bureau of Meteorology provided the forecast for the 2020-21 severe weather season advising that Queensland could experience heavier than usual rainfall, widespread and prolonged flooding, and possibly more cyclones than average.

Following the media conference, nbn Australia helped organise a special virtual visit by JT to Pormpuraaw State School on the remote west coast of Cape York. He was thrilled to talk to the students about the extreme weather Queenslanders face and how it impacts them and their families.

Administered by Queensland Reconstruction Authority, the Get Ready Queensland program is a year-round, all-hazards, resilience building initiative to help communities prepare for natural disasters.
