Community Education and Information Program

Program purpose

The purpose of the jointly funded Australian and Queensland Government (50:50) Community Education and Information Program is to enhance the disaster preparedness and resilience of communities impacted by the Monsoon Trough, and ensure communities are aware of individual risks and the importance of preparing for disasters. 

The Community Education and Information Program is a component of the jointly funded, exceptional circumstances Category C & D package approved under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) 2018, following the Monsoon Trough. 

Objectives of the community information and education program are to:

  • deliver targeted awareness campaigns and activities that focus on broader home-preparedness and disaster preparedness across the regions impacted by the Monsoon Trough
  • enhance community awareness of individual risks and preparedness activities so they are better informed and therefore equipped to respond and recover faster following natural disasters
  • increase awareness of services available to assist community members with their mental and psychological wellbeing, including children increase awareness of the importance of insurance, focused on households and small business.
