$45.75 million boost to western Queensland flood recovery
Western Queensland communities impacted by record-breaking floods in March are set to benefit from a number of new disaster recovery packages.
With work to rebuild the region ongoing, the assistance will play a key role in driving western Queensland’s long-term recovery.
Worth $45.75 million, the four new packages target primary producers, community wellbeing, tourism, and small businesses.
Assistance in key areas including primary production and tourism has been boosted while a major investment in human recovery will provide residents with the specialised care they need.
A $25.6 million Primary Producer Support Package will help repair and reinstate damaged wild dog barrier fencing and provide financial counselling and other support to affected outback farmers.
$14.61 million is being invested in community health and wellbeing, improving the scope of personal and emotional support available in the west, particularly for those vulnerable and at greater risk.
The $2.14 million Tourism Industry Recovery Package will help attract visitors back to outback Queensland and stimulate local economies.
A $3.4 million Small Business Recovery Package will support local operators who have been indirectly impacted and require financial counselling.
Additionally, Disaster Recovery Grants for small businesses, first announced in early April, have being doubled, going from $25,000 to $50,000.
Eligible flood affected small businesses can apply for Disaster Recovery Grants via www.qrida.qld.gov.au or by calling 1800 623 946, with applications open till 2 April 2026.
All support measures are funded under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
