Community Health and Wellbeing – South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall

About

The $8.81 million Community Health and Wellbeing, Community Recovery and Resilience Officers, Flexible Funding Grants package aims to mitigate psychosocial impacts, help impacted individuals access financial support, builders and services, and assist NGOs with disaster preparedness and response planning, following the South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall, 24 December 2023 – 3 January 2024 event.

The package includes:

  • $2.25 million in psychosocial and mental health support for community members to provided skills and resources for dealing with issues related to their disaster experience
  • $2.7 million for up to five full-time equivalent community recovery connect workers within Neighbourhood Centres to partner with special interest and community groups in assisting vulnerable residents
  • $1.35 million towards community recovery and resilience officers to engage, support and promote recovery and resilience planning and activities at a local level
  • $2.5 million in Flexible Funding Grants available across all LGAs to be used for the development of emergency, disaster preparedness and business continuity plans, including for community organisations and Neighbourhood Centres.
     

This package involves direct funding to the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) and Queensland Health to conduct community health and wellbeing activities through internal service delivery, grants programs and working closely with partner agencies to support the recovery of communities following the eligible events.

Eligibility

Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV) will deliver the community health and wellbeing package in the following local governments areas impacted by:

  • City of Gold Coast
  • Logan City Council
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council

Funding acknowledgement

The package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to support Queensland communities in their recovery from South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall, 24 December 2023 – 3 January 2024 disaster event.
