About the DRFA exceptional circumstances package

The 2023-24 SEQ Severe Storms recovery operation includes a suite of exceptional circumstances funding packages has been developed to support communities, families, small businesses, primary producers and not-for-profit organisations severely impacted by the South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall, 24 December 2023 - 3 January 2024 event.

To date the following DRFA exceptional circumstances package components have been announced:

Economic

Small business support package - SEQ Severe Storms
$4.52 million program includes one-on-one case management focused on mental health and financial security, partnerships with councils and chambers of commerce to address local support needs, and grants for small businesses.
Local Recovery and Resilience Grants - SEQ storms 2023
Local Resilience and Recovery Grants to a total $3 million with $1 million each for three LGAs: Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim, following the SEQ Severe storms and rainfall, 24 December 2023 - 3 January 2024.
Recovery Project Manager - Scenic Rim
Recovery Project Manager to manage the extraordinary recovery effort for Scenic Rim Regional Council following the SEQ Severe storms and rainfall, 24 December 2023 - 3 January 2024.

Environment

Environmental Recovery Package - SEQ Severe Storms
$51.3 million package is for environmental and cultural recovery activities to accelerate recovery across the most heavily impacted areas following the following Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the SEQ Severe Storms.
Clean up program - SEQ storms 2023
Clean-up Program funding for three LGAs including the Gold Coast, Logan, and Scenic Rim, following the SEQ Severe storms and rainfall, 24 December 2023 - 3 January 2024.

Human and Social

Community Health and Wellbeing  & Community Recovery and Resilience Officers & Flexible Funding - South Queensland
Community Health and Wellbeing, Community Recovery and Resilience Officers, Flexible Funding Grants package following TC Jasper and SEQ Severe Storms.
Mental Health Program - SEQ Severe Storms
$9.56 million Mental Health Program to provide individual and family therapeutic interventions for impacted people following TC Jasper and the SEQ Severe Storms.

Built

Sport and Recreation Community Facilities Recovery Program - South Queensland
$6.3 million Sport and Recreation Facilities Recovery Program that will help rebuild and repair sport and recreation facilities impacted by the SEQ Severe Storms

Funding acknowledgement

The package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to support Queensland communities in their recovery from the South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall, 24 December 2023 - 3 January 2024.
