Mental Health Program – South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall

About

The $4.954 million Mental Health Program will fund Queensland Health to provide individual and family therapeutic interventions for impacted people, with particular attention paid to vulnerable people displaced from their home, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, following the South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall, 24 December 2023 – 3 January 2024 event. 

The Mental Health Program includes:

South-East Queensland Storms Mental Health Package - $4.123m

Multidisciplinary teams to provide outreach support and trauma informed therapies with a focus on supporting vulnerable communities across the disaster impacted areas.

Child and Family Mental Health Recovery Support - $0.501m

Children’s Health Queensland provides information and resources to support children and families going through natural disasters and disruptive events.

Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs – Strategy and Planning Branch - $0.331m

This program will provide support to Child and Family Mental Health Recovery.

Eligibility

Queensland Health will deliver the Mental Health Program in the following local governments areas within the Gold Coast and Metro South Hospital Health Services impacted by:
•    City of Gold Coast
•    Logan City Council
•    Scenic Rim Regional Council

Funding acknowledgement

The package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to support Queensland communities in their recovery from the South Queensland Severe Storms and Rainfall, 24 December 2023 – 3 January 2024 event.
