2023-24 Queensland Bushfires - recovery operation

Event summary
The 2023-24 Bushfire season has seen several bushfire events activated for Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Two significant bushfire events across Northern and Southern Queensland resulted in a burn scar of 753,806 hectares. The two significant events are the:
- Southern Queensland Bushfires, 8 September - 7 November 2023
- Northern Queensland Bushfires, commencing 18 October 2023.
Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) for these 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) for the abovementioned two events has seen a range of assistance measures activated to address the short, medium and long term impacts. These two bushfire events have had a disastrous effect on many residents and primary producers. Refer to the activations page for this event for details of the specific DRFA funding measures that have been activated for each local government area.
Financial assistance
Recovery operation
The recovery operation for abovementioned 2023-24 Bushfire events will include:
- preparation of a business case for extraordinary assistance under the DRFA
- offers of support from QRA Recovery and Resilience Officers (RROs) to eligible councils to help develop event specific local recovery plans
- QRA as lead recovery agency liaising with Functional Recovery Groups to ensure appropriate state recovery planning.
Local Recovery Plans
QRA is working closely with councils to offer support to develop event specific local recovery plans that will be available following endorsement by councils.
