Tourism Industry Support - 2025 North and Far North Queensland Tropical Low

Announced as part of $26.23 million Small Business and Tourism Recovery Support Package, the $6.43 million Tourism Industry Recovery Support Program will support the immediate to longer term economic recovery in local government areas that rely heavily on tourism and have been significantly impacted by the North and Far North Tropical Low, 29 January – 28 February 2025 event.

The Tourism Recovery and Resilience Program is comprised of the following initiatives:

  • Aviation and Trade Partnerships – to stimulate and drive immediate visitation to the impacted region.
  • Open for Business Marketing Campaign – to support the re-building of consumer confidence
  • Event Boost – to support economic recovery and bolster the future resilience of communities that rely heavily on tourism. 
  • Building Resilient Tourism Infrastructure Fund (grants available up to $250,000) – to support the development of a more sustainable and resilient tourism industry (see More information)
  • Tourism Recovery Officer – to deliver effective liaison and management of the recovery and resilience processes for the tourism sector including linking in with state and national programs and community-led initiatives that build on the strength and capacity of tourism operators and LGA relevant/appropriate activities to promote resilience to future events.

Eligible council areas include:

  • Burdekin Shire Council
  • Cassowary Coast Regional Council
  • Charters Towers Regional Council
  • Hinchinbrook Shire Council
  • Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council
  • Townsville City Council
