Local Recovery and Resilience Grants - $24 million

Purpose

The Local Recovery and Resilience Grants provide $1 million capped grant allocations to assist councils that have been severely impacted by eligible extraordinary disaster events in 2021-22.

The purpose of the grants program is to assist eligible councils in delivering activities and projects that:

  • Address emerging community relief and recovery needs following the onset of the eligible extraordinary event
  • Contribute to building disaster resilience and reducing the impact of future events.

Status

This program is currently underway. Grant advances have been paid, with 24 submissions made from 17 councils.

Guidelines and eligible councils

Local Recovery and Resilience Grants are capped at $1 million per eligible council. Eligible councils impacted during the the Central, Southern and Western Queensland Rainfall and Flooding, South East Queensland Rainfall and Flooding, and Southern Queensland Flooding events are referenced in the guidelines below.

Project plan and reporting

Eligible councils are required to use the following project plan form to:

  • Detail local recovery and resilience activities/works, milestones and costs to be delivered under the eligible event
  • Lodge project plans, by the due date to QRA for assessment and approval

Key dates

  • 30 March 2023 - Project plans due to QRA prior to the release of the ‘milestone 2 payment’
  • 30 June 2024 - All approved projects must be completed
  • 30 September 2024 - All final acquittal reports due to be lodged with QRA

Funding acknowledgement

$24 million jointly funded (50:50) by the Queensland and Australian Governments under Category D of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
