Tourism Industry Recovery Support - 2025 Western Queensland Surface Trough

About

The $2.14 million Tourism Industry Recovery Support Package will support the immediate to longer term economic recovery in local government areas (LGAs) that rely heavily on tourism. The funding will assist in driving visitation to nominated LGAs to enable tourism recovery for communities significantly impacted by the Western Queensland Surface Trough and Associated Rainfall and Flooding, 21 March - 19 May 2025.

The Tourism Industry Recovery Support Package includes the following initiatives:

  • Drive the Outback Campaign –promotion and marketing programs to re-build consumer confidence and drive immediate visitation to the affected regions
  • Event Boost – to enhance the region’s event calendar in 2025-2026, supporting economic recovery and bolstering the future resilience of communities that rely heavily on tourism
  • Tourism Recovery Officer – to deliver effective liaison and management of the recovery and resilience processes for the tourism sector including linking in with state and national programs and community-led initiatives that build on the strength and capacity of tourism operators and LGA relevant/appropriate activities to promote resilience to future events.

Eligiblility

The Tourism Package will be delivered across the following local government areas (LGAs):

  1. Barcoo Shire Council
  2. Boulia Shire Council
  3. Bulloo Shire Council
  4. Diamantina Shire Council
  5. Longreach Shire Council
  6. Murweh Shire Council
  7. Paroo Shire Council
  8. Quilpie Shire Council
  9. Winton Shire Council.

Funding acknowledgement

The package is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments to support Queensland communities in their recovery from the Western Queensland Surface Trough and Associated Rainfall and Flooding 21 March – 19 May 2025.
